About the Department
The Agriculture and Extension Education/FFA Team in the Department of Agriculture and Human Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at NC State University provides programmatic support to the state's agricultural education teachers at the middle and high school levels by developing and maintaining curriculum, providing professional development, mentoring and leadership for the North Carolina FFA Association.

The NC FFA Foundation provides financial support and public awareness for agricultural education and FFA in order to make a positive difference in the lives of students.
Essential Job Duties
The State FFA Coordinator position provides technical assistance to agriculture teachers and others within the local school systems in a timely and professional manner. Responsibilities include: coordinating all state-level activities and events of the North Carolina FFA Association, assisting agricultural education teachers with program planning, and enhancement of FFA and SAE activities.

The position expectations for the State FFA Coordinator are as follows:
  • Position North Carolina Agricultural Education as the leading career technical education program in the public schools of North Carolina.

  • Enhance and strengthen the professionalism and teaching abilities of the state's agricultural education teachers to better meet the needs of students for the 21st century.
  • Network internally with all university faculty and staff as well as external agencies and organizations to ensure maximum productivity and efficiency in meeting the needs of the state's agriculture teachers and agricultural education programs.
  • Continually train and be trained in all areas of education, agriculture, and technology to enhance the state's agricultural education programs.
  • Position the state's FFA programs and activities as the leader in providing high-quality leadership, personal growth, and career development experiences.

Other Responsibilities
The State FFA Coordinator is expected to also accomplish the following duties as a part of their responsibilities in providing statewide leadership:
  • Coordinate the year-round training, scheduling, and management of the state FFA officers, including overnight chaperoning at state and national events.
  • Coordinate and oversee the implementation of all North Carolina FFA Association activities and events.
  • Serve as the primary contact with the National FFA Organization on all matters related to student programming.
  • Oversee the social media and web presence of the North Carolina FFA Association.
  • Coordinate the programming, curriculum, and support materials used for all state leadership events.
  • Serve on boards and committees to further strengthen North Carolina Agricultural Education.
  • Work in unison with the Agricultural Education State Staff Team and all other university faculty.
  • Collaborate with the State Agricultural Education Team and the North Carolina FFA Foundation to maintain and create partnerships that support North Carolina Agricultural Education and FFA.
  • Educate and communicate with internal and external audiences about agricultural education and the FFA.
  • Work in unison with all local and state school administrators.
  • Work with new agricultural education programs to charter FFA chapters.
  • Assist with recruiting future agriculture teachers.
  • Promote work-based and experiential learning (SAE) as an integral part of a quality agricultural education program.
  • Conduct school visits to provide technical assistance for agriculture teachers.
  • Continually evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of North Carolina Agricultural Education and FFA.
  • Offer an array of professional development/in-service education opportunities for beginning, experienced, and non-certified agriculture teachers.
  • Provide in-service education and support resources to agriculture teachers to assist them in recruiting, retaining, and developing FFA members.
  • Work with academic team faculty to ensure that the needs of agricultural education teachers and local school systems are being met through preservice and in-service efforts.
  • Regularly conduct a needs assessment of agricultural education/FFA students and teachers to identify their training needs.
  • Be fiscally responsible and adhere to the budgetary goals of the North Carolina FFA Association and NC State University.
  • Conduct and participate in meetings, conferences, and other activities to network on behalf of North Carolina Agricultural Education and FFA.
  • Improve the quality of existing FFA activities and offer appropriate new activities to strengthen FFA at the state and local levels.
Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in a relevant field study.
  • At least 3 years of experience as an agricultural education teacher.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Excellent coaching and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including public speaking.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and the Google Suite of services (or similar software).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in a relevant field of study.

  • A valid NC Driver's License and the ability to obtain an NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire.
  • A valid Driver's License must be maintained throughout employment.
