UW Credit Union is hiring a Senior Programmer Analyst that wants to make a positive impact on our members in a meaningful way.


As a Senior Programmer Analyst at UWCU, you play a key role in developing and supporting COBOL applications within a mainframe environment. This includes both the development of proprietary systems and the maintenance of a third-party system that supports our core financial platform. You will design and develop applications, collaborate cross functionally, and manage interfaced applications. This role also involves strategic solution design, leading large projects, and coaching less experienced staff.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

Applications Development and Support - 45%

  • Translate requirements into functional applications, showcasing strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Design, build, and test efficient, reusable, and dependable COBOL code for robust software solutions.
  • Ensure optimal performance, quality, and responsiveness in all applications, prioritizing an exceptional end-user experience.
  • Provide valuable applications development support for new product development and process improvements, using various programming tools in the COBOL environment.
  • Coordinate code migrations across environments, collaborating with multiple teams for smooth transitions from Development to Production.
  • Manage the host database environment, implementing custom fields and structures, and overseeing reorganization and garbage collection functions.

Solution Architecture - 20%

  • Architect and sustain strategic solutions to support flexible, scalable, and easily maintainable applications, demonstrating a commitment to innovative design.
  • Lead development and project teams, ensuring adherence to organizational standards, cultivating a focused and collaborative environment, and actively driving continuous improvements.
  • Oversee the maintenance of thorough system documentation, promoting transparency and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Provide strategic advice to leadership on emerging trends, new capabilities, and features that could enhance the effectiveness of UWCU, showcasing a forward-thinking approach.

Business Analysis and Project Leadership - 15%

  • Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to define, develop, and document business requirements, objectives, deliverables, and specifications on a project-by-project basis.
  • Independently lead medium and large-scale projects, ensuring strict adherence to architecture standards, risk management, and security policies.
  • Facilitate the User Acceptance Testing (UAT) process by pro-actively tracking and addressing defects as they arise

Maintain System Viability and Data Integrity - 10%

  • Investigate and resolve program failures, demonstrating adept troubleshooting skills.
  • Collaborate with IT staff, UWCU division representatives, and vendors to define and address systems-related issues, ensuring comprehensive problem resolution.
  • Efficiently manage program processing, monitor system resources, and actively participate in disaster recovery preparation, emphasizing optimization for consistent service levels.

Other Duties - 10%

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • 5+ years of COBOL program analysis, design, development, and support.
  • Ability to negotiate priorities, manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Comprehensive understanding of a Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Ability to identify and distinguish constraints, dependencies, risks, issues and assumptions.
  • Knowledge of the mainframe development environment, including utilities required to effectively perform the job function.
  • Understanding fundamental design principles behind a scalable application.
  • Broad vision and ability to define enterprise level solution architectures.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools.
  • Ability to work 2-3 days a week on-site and participate in on-call rotation schedule.
